Privacy Policy – VividRead

What data we process

VividRead is a reading helper extension and web app. When you use the extension, we process the text you select on a page (and, when available, a small amount of nearby context) to generate explanations, translations, examples, and related learning content.

Purpose and scope

We use the selected text (and optional context) to provide the core product experience: instant explanations, translations, pronunciation support, and saving lookups to your account so you can review them later.

Processing

When you trigger a lookup, the extension sends the selected text to our service over HTTPS. If you are signed in, requests may be authenticated so we can save your lookups and settings. We do not use your data for advertising or sell your data.

Cookies and analytics

Our website may use cookies or similar technologies (such as local storage) to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the site is used so we can improve it.

The marketing site may use analytics providers (for example, Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics) to measure traffic and feature usage. These providers may set cookies and collect device and usage information (like pages viewed, approximate location inferred from IP, and browser details).

You can limit cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect certain features.

What we store

Depending on how you use VividRead, we may store:

  • Account information (e.g., email) if you create an account.
  • Lookups you save (selected text, generated explanation/translation, and optional metadata like categories or context you choose to add).
  • Settings (e.g., target language, preferences) to personalize your experience.

Retention

Saved lookups and settings are retained until you delete them (or delete your account). Authentication/session data stored locally in the extension is kept on your device to keep you signed in and can be cleared by signing out or removing extension data.

Permissions

The extension runs on pages you visit so it can detect your text selection and show an in-page tooltip. It uses Chrome storage to save settings (and, if you sign in, session information). We do not request access to chrome:// pages.

Third-party service providers

We rely on trusted providers to operate VividRead:

  • Supabase for authentication and data storage.
  • AI/LLM providers to generate explanations and related learning content (invoked by our service when you request a lookup).
  • Stripe for subscription billing (if you choose to subscribe).

We share only what is necessary to provide the requested functionality (for example, the text you submit for a lookup).
